Athletics Camera System
Guidelines for the use of Camera System in Holliston High School Athletics Facilities
In accordance with MIAA guidelines, Holliston Public Schools high schools have or will install video recording cameras in athletic facilities to record and stream athletics practice and events. This document outlines how the cameras will be used and who will have access to the camera feeds and recordings. At the time this document is written, the Hudl camera system is the primary system in use or to be used.
Use of Cameras
The camera equipment will be used to:
- Stream games for public access especially when spectator seating is limited due to health considerations.
- Record video of games for viewing by the public and as a teaching tool by coaches with their respective teams.
- Record video of practices for viewing by coaches and athletes as a teaching tool with their respective teams.
The cameras will NOT be used to:
- Monitor athletics facilities beyond games and practices
- Capture or record video of regular academic classes
Parents/guardians of minor student athletes (or student athletes if over the age of 18) will be required to sign a permission and release developed by the Holliston Public Schools and available annually on the PowerSchool Annual Student Verification Form.
Camera Controls and Access
- Only the Athletic Director and/or designee at Holliston high school will have access to control the camera feed and recordings.
- Camera feed will not be accessible outside of game or practice time as controlled by the Athletic Director and/or designee.
- Coaches will only have access to recorded video while officially employed as coaches by the Holliston Public Schools. The athletic directors will be responsible for managing coach accounts including enabling and disabling accounts according to employment status.
Notification of Film Recording
The Holliston Public Schools athletics departments have installed indoor and outdoor cameras for the purpose of filming athletic events, including games and practices. Filming is used for the purpose of live streaming events to platforms such as YouTube, film exchange in accordance with MIAA regulations, and for coaching and practice purposes. Holliston has contracted with HUDL to supply the cameras and to store recorded film. (https://www.hudl.com/en_gb/).
As a participant in Holliston athletics, it is likely that you/your student will appear on recorded and/or live streamed video. Holliston takes all reasonable precautions to protect student privacy, but makes no warranties or representations regarding use of your/your student’s appearance on the internet or other platforms by third parties.
Permission and Release
By participating in/allowing my student to participate in Holliston Public Schools athletics, I give permission for the Athletics Department to record, edit, film and photograph my student’s appearance, spoken words and performance in connection with their participation in athletics. I understand that my/my student’s full name may be transmitted to the public or recorded, and that my/my student’s address and biographical information will not be made public. I further understand that such recordings will be stored and shared via a third-party platform.
By agreeing to the above, I release the Town of Holliston and Holliston Public Schools ,the Superintendent, and all Town of Holliston and HPS staff, employees, agents, officers or representatives from any current or future claims, damages (including but not limited to personal injury damages and property damages), liabilities, costs and expenses, includingattorney’s fees, known or unknown, presently or in the future, arising out of or related to my student’s appearance or participation in these recordings and the use of such recordings. I further understand that the Holliston Public Schools makes no warranties or representations regarding use of my/my student’s appearance on the internet by third parties.
If I do not wish for my student to be recorded, I understand that I must contact the school’s athletic director.
